"I don't think we could say that. Just earlier this very day before we
ventured down we broke our morning bread with him. We saw him cower when he
heard the noise from the chamber below. Not once has he made a move that his
old bones didn't ache over or show any use of power beyond that of merely
saving his own hide."
Lenora's next words were very low and said with no small grain of guilt in
them as well as conviction. "I think that I would do the same if my fate was
bandied about so in front of me as if I had no signifigance or say in it. In
fact we have, not that long ago locked up over this mystery that we still
have no clarity in revolving around Maereth. We know he didn't kill the
people because the questor proved it. Other then that you yourself were
questioning what we knew of him and the possibility that he could have been
guilty."
"How different is it here, Pean? Are we going for the scorched earth policy?
When in doubt destroy it as peasants would a hare-lipped child? Because it's
feared that there may be some dark influence? Is this out of fear? For we
have no proof. We truly don't."
"If he is innocent you'd be spilling the blood of one locked here so long
he'd never known the beauty of the world beyond this barren rock. Would he
not deserve to see it before he passes on? He isn't a raider or a gnasher,
he's an old man, touched or not. An old man, Pean."
"Cast no more stones, Pean. If you were under this scrutiny I have no doubt
that all of us would fight to our very deaths to defend you from such a
hopeless end, whether you wanted it or not. He has no friends to stand for
him so. And you are his best hope to prove his innocence."
"You could push those gnashers away and keep them at bay, would not it have
the same reaction if he were a horror or horror touched. Could you not try
it?" Lenora was gasping for straws, hoping it wasn't in vain. "As a
nethermancer you fight against the night, yes? Is there no reclaimation for
those that find themselves caught in twilight? No salvation from the moon
and stars?"
((OOC: I love our moral topics. It seems like every two weeks of game time
we end up in one of these. This is the beautiful character interaction that
makes me hate hack and slash D&D all the more. And Jhez, kudoes. You're
going to have a soap box of your very own in no time.))
