"I agree with both of you" says Pean, studying the area thoughtfully.
"It is clear that the Kaer was breached, although we have no evidence
that the inhabitants *were* slain. The spell Temorya detected on the
door may be magics erected after the breach to keep more Horrors out.
Given the area, though, I do not feel such protection would last long,
so we must assume it was fatally breached, and that only a Horror, or
its minions, are left to greet us.
This causes me much misgivings about the tale of Heffgold's fleeing the
Kaer. If he were a Nethermancer, I would see how he could have made
himself fit through such a gap. A gifted enough one could even summon
a spirit to take him through astral space to outside the Kaer as the
defences were breached, although it would be a desperate move in the
circumstances. Likewise, a Nethermancer or Elementalist could summon a
spirit to take the wand through this gap into the world, but I cannot
see it lasting long against the Horror waiting outside. But he was a
wizard. I see no way he could have left the Kaer, if he were in it,
which makes me wonder how the wand got out"

Pean thinks back to the time in the Sara Mayflower's treasure room,
trying to recall the words she used..

"Sara Mayflower did not say that Heffgold was *in* the Kaer, but that
he hid treasure there, although, she did say 'He was believed to have
sealed a treasure away in a Kaer when he hid from the scourge'. This
does imply he was in there, but does not explicitly state it - he could
have sealed the Kaer, then gone to another, although the costs and
risks involved seem...unlikely. it does, however, give me an idea. As
the Stave helped us find this place, perhaps it will act as a key to
the door, as well?"

OOC: I love Kaer exploration! the dangers! the risks! The nasty,
messy, painful death! Wait.... ;-)
