Subject: Gamemaster's Note
Ok.
Well, I finally found the time and energy to read through the posts. I don't know if having everyone continue the posts was such a good thing, for many reasons, particularly because every time I sat down at my computer and saw how many there were I kept having a feeling of putting it off. Very intimidating seeing so many posts to have to read.
There has obviously been some good roleplaying involved, as well as other mishaps that go without saying. I thought I would add a few thoughts on the matter.
In the beginning, there was the GM. GM created a campaign, and for a time he saw that it was good. GM saw that he needed players, and so he created players, and for a time he saw that it was good.
Ok, don't know where that came from. Wasn't meaning to be sacreligious or anything.
Honestly though, you all know where I stand on things hopefully. But let me enlighten a bit. I am a people pleaser. I have been asked and told that I should intervene where needs be, and that on occasion GMs need to take charge and tell certain players to stop doing certain things. Instead, I have simply stated that this is, as originally intended, a test and trial campaign for me to get used to PBeM gaming as well as (and most importantly) the Parlainth Box Set. Therefore, as such, I expect that players who play in my game come to play characters who will play in the universal, common, groupy role of the characters who came together by their own means to form a group who battles evil. Each has their own original goal, but eventually will find a greater one to battle. Obviously no greater goal or plot has been revealed, but that is what is expected. Your typical, run-of-the mill, Final Fantasy or old school RPG video game. This is not without each player giving their characters a personality of course.
Now, I have only once removed players from my game and it was a very hard thing to do. The reason I did this was because I had a player who insisted on having his character do his own little thing and didn't want to be a part of the group. He always wanted to separate. It was easy to get rid of him because I didn't know him that well. I had another player who did the same kind of thing, bust most everyone just put up with him as the leader and let him guide the way. It worked, but it wouldn't always work for every group of course.
As I said before, I am a people pleaser. I am more likely to stop running a game than to get rid of 1 player out of 100 and satisfy the majority. I probably wouldn't make a very good president for this reason. I hate having even 1 upset person. There may be rare occasions, like if I were to add a new person none of us met and he started trying to run the show. But other than that, I wouldn't do it. Nope, I would most likely just say, "Sorry guys. I do not feel I can gamemaster anymore due to the contention among players" and just bag it. This would most likely disappoint all, but I'm an all-or-nothing kinda guy I guess.
With that said, I really hope that the contention can be taken care of. If there is going to be contention, argue about it off-list even if I'm the only person kept out of the arguement. I will, however, be a little concerned if I get someone telling me that they quit because I will be wondering if it's because I suck as a GM or something.
I always tend to write my messages late, so this is probably just useless rambling. I hope I've made a point somewhere in all of this.
Aside from that, I have read all the posts and am ready to continue the game. My biggest question is, how many of you want to continue? Please let me know if you are interested in playing the game still. If not, I will not be offended. Please do not tell me you can continue though if you cannot keep up with most of the posts.
One other thing. If you are continuing, please let me know all that your character has purchased (beer, baths, dinner, etc.). I would go through and write down each occurance if I had to, but I figure it would be easier this way and besides...it will delay posting if I had to do that.
Please let me know by Wednesday if you are ready to continue, so I can try my hardest to get a post out Wednesday night.
Thank you all for your patience,
Doug
P.S. Mark, still taking some time to read through your game's posts. Hope I'm not missing anything crucial at this point. Please let me know if there's something specific I need to reply to.
P.P.S.S. Job search is still continuing. If you pray, my family and I would be very grateful if you would include us in them. Thanks.
