"That is two distinct questions," the warrior replies, "and it would be
easier to address the second first and the first second."

"The decision to forego Karma Rituals was done so because the potential was
not worth the risk involved. I'm not certain everyone fully realized the
dangers of being trapped the catacombs beneath Parlainth with no way of
knowing when or how we'd be able to return to the surface.

"As I said this morning, in a place such as that, the best chance of
surviving a fight with the corrputed denizens of Parlainth is to avoid it in
the first place. That means moving quickly and quietly - getting out
without being found. Waiting around for everyone to spread out, find space
for their Rituala, do what is required, recover their breath if necessary,
and then regroup was time that could be better spent finding a way to the
surface. As long as we stayed, it was quite possible something had detected
our presence. There was no reason to remain in one place any longer than
necessary to find out.

"I have not seen your personal Ritual, but I've seen Rafenye's. She would
have been bounding about the entire room, sword flailing wildly, shouting
insults at every shadow and stone in the chamber for the entire Ritual. The
worked stone passages beneath the Parlainth would have carried echos of her
Taunts, or any loud noises made by anyone, far and wide, letting anyone - or
anything - nearby know of our presence if they didn't already.

"All for what? Unless someone here has been less than truthful, no one has
yet completed their Apprentiship. First and Second Circle Adepts have
hardly mastered the art of the Karma Ritual enough to draw a large amount of
magic to their patterns. Had any of the ruins' inhabitance been drawn by
the commotion, any Karma drawn would have likely been expended driving them
off. Add to that the wounds that would be suffered, if we even survived,
and you would have lost far more than gained.

"No, the risks of performing Karma Rituals far outwieghed the possible
rewards. There was no reason to risk the entire pary for what little
benefit they would have resulted in. I had given my abbreviated reasons
twice this morning, and they were not heeded. I interrupted you because it
was the quickest way to end the stalemate. You may consider my actions
rude, but protecting the lives of the group takes precedent over 'ettiquite'
in situations such as that. It is because we moved quickly, we have the
time, now, to sit in the safety of this inn and discuss the situation
further.

"As for the dangers of the Karma Ritual - I won't pretend to have
experienced anyone's Ritual but my own. Pehaps I am closer to my Discipline
than most, but my Ritual has always been accompanied by the rush of energy
into my pattern, invigorating it and me as my essence is strengthened. The
sensation is not unlike swimming deep beneath the Serpent - the energy
washes around - and through - me like a current, wrapping around me as I
draw nearer to my Discipline. Through my Talents I can tap this energy and
draw it into myself, harnassing it for later use.

"I am no magician, but it is my understanding this Astral flow is not unlike
the casting of a spell. Obviously it is not the exact same - the energy is
stored instead of used to force a spell into existance - but the
similarities are there regardless. I assume we all know of the magicians'
Matrices - the astral constructs they use to protect themself from this
energy, but unfortunately the rest of us can not benefit from similar
protection.

"The only methods we have of perfecting our Ritual and ensuring our safety
is through practice. Our methods are sloppy compared to the Wardens of our
Disciplines. There exists a clear margin for error, one which very well may
have a high price.

"Obviously this is all speculation based on conversations held with my
ship's elementalist. While we could not conclusively prove the theory that
a Karma Ritual can be dangerous, he did agree it was a definite possibility.

"Astran has already voiced his disagreement, and under different
circumstances I would feel compelled to discuss it further, and perhaps ask
him to watch the Astral reflection of our rituals to determine if it is the
case. However given the combat with the ghouls, we must consider the
possibility his opinion in these matters is... compromised. I consider the
question as to if something may possibly taint a Namegiver one to be posed
to a Wizard whom we can be certain would give an 'unbiased' opinion.

T'sunami reached for his mug, signalling he was finished. "Does that answer
your questions?" he asked before downing its contents.

I've been trying to send this damn thing since 1:00 (-600 GMT). My internet
connection is fading in and out for some reason - hopefully everyone will
recieve it before I'm 30.

Yeah, I'm 24 now.
