[Parlainth] PBeM 0.3 We're Singing In The Rain

The troll enters into his room and comes out with a pouch and throws it at
the t'skrang. The sound of silver rattles in the bag. "There. Enough
silver in there for each of you to get a night in the communal room and a
drink when we're done. Are you happy now t'skrang? There's an extra ten in
there to get you to shut up and just help. I'm sure your fellow comrades
will be grateful for that." With that the troll storms downstairs leaving
the t'skrang to follow.

You see the troll enter into the common area. "So, have you decided? I
assume that by seeing you all here you are agreed to come?" He looks around
the room and sees that all seem to be in agreeance. "Very well then. To
make up for lost accommodations I have given the scaly one a bag full of
coins, enough for each of you to get a room and drink when we're done.
However, you will all be most likely to run your separate ways with the
information we will gain. Come now, we go."

You all head out into the downpour of rain, Illyana making sure she is first
out the door even before the large troll. It is not quite cold, but is
somewhat unpleasant to most of you. Those who have grown up with the rain
welcome it. Those who are out running in the rain stop to stare at the
large band of adventurers before them. You head up along the large road that
is lined with a few large slabs of wall, about 10 feet high and see a store
called Torgak's supplies across from The Restless Troll which you had not
noticed so much before.

You also see something else you had not noticed before. Across the laneway
from the entrance to The Restless Troll you see on one of the slabs of
limestone what seems to be some sort of map. Some of you have heard of this
map before, and recognize it as Haven't Map Wall. As you stare at the map
you see that it is full of maddening irregularities, using different
markings and different symbols. You cannot seem to tell whether a marking
refers to an aboveground feature, or something in the underground tunnels.
The troll sees some of you staring at the map and comments, "Some believe
that wall to be no better than a rumor. Others feel that it is one of the
best leads one has to finding some great treasures, if one were to
understand what the symbols mean. Sometimes an adventurer will seek out
those locations to find what the meaning of one of the symbols means, and
they do. Only they are now dead because the symbol represented a creature,
or a trap. They were warned, they just didn't understand. Come everyone.
The map means nothing now that we have a survivor." He continues to lead
on.

He leads you to a large gate that has a few guards posted, sitting
underneath a canopy to protect themselves from the rain. One guard, a male
elf, speaks up. "Each of you must agree in writing to pay damages of 100
silver pieces per guard should any of Haven's guards be forced to fight
creatures who pursue any of you back into Haven.

The troll looks to you all, "It is the safest way in, and perhaps one of the
only ways unless we find a hole big enough for us trolls on some part of the
ruins or an area of the wall to climb over." With that you all approach a
contract that you are asked to fill out. When asked, the troll states that
he has already filled one out and that they are good a week at a time.

After finishing up, the guards open the gate for you and you see before you
a large laneway approximately twenty feet wide, bordered on both sides by a
containing wall roughly ten feet high. Gaps in the walls lead into side
streets. You see disembodied stone feet in a couple areas and other pieces
of statue across the lane. Some of the areas where it seems a statue seem
to have been is bare, as if someone had removed the statue completely. You
can only imagine what these statues may have been based on the little that
you see before you.

The giant paving stones of the laneway are broken in many areas along the
road. Some are lying on top of others or wedged into the ground at right
angles. Thick weeds grow between the stones everyone the soil is exposed.
Some of the weeds you see seem almost mutated, and those of you with any
knowledge of plants can feel a sense of evil emanating from these plants.

You travel a ways down the road, seeing gaping holes in the roads that seem
to expose tunnels far below. It seems as though one could travel on a mount
along the road, but would have to be careful in doing so as a the mount's
feet might easily get caught and tripped up. A thundra beast might be able
to handle the jagged road a little better.

You look up in the sky at the clouds and can see that the clouds to your
left seem to be quite darker than the rest. Lighting seems to be striking
within those clouds and not so much anywhere else. "The Twists," you think
to yourself. You are sure that is where it is. Just as you begin to
wonder, the troll leads you all into a side road into the darkened area. As
soon as you are off the laneway and onto the new road you can see that it is
darker. The rain is heavier upon your skin, and you can see the lighting
dance around you where as in Haven and on the laneway the lightning was more
in the distance.

The troll stops after you are all onto the road off from the laneway.
"These are The Twists. From here on out we must be especially on our guard.
Let us keep the formation two-one-two-one. That means two in front,
followed by one, followed by two. This would be the best way to enter with
such a large group. The other troll and I will lead. Although wait," he
pauses and looks to the group, "I just realized that I don't know what all
of your disciplines are. I also did not ever introduce myself. I suppose
in the haste I did not think of such a thing. I suppose we should introduce
ourselves, even though we are just going to be leaving afterwards. Should
we get into battle it would be nice to know who to call out to. I am called
Berryblood. I am of the warrior discipline." You all take turns
introducing yourselves to the troll and the group as well stating your name
and discipline.

As soon as you all finish, Berryblood comments to Endok-Tuk, "Ah. I did not
know you were a spellcaster. Perhaps it's better if you were further back
in the group. I will leave it up to you all to agree what is best. Whoever
is at my side I care not, as long as it's not the t'skrang."

As you start to discuss your formation you start to hear a sound coming from
around you. At first it seems to come from the north, then from the south.
You all become quiet, as if you all hear it at the same time. Then the
sound of metal dragging along the ground is heard.

Endok-Tuk speaks up, telling you all that he sees multiple humanoid like
creatures heading slowly towards the group.
