Description
Creates a Wisp as per "Creatures of Barsaive" p102, which will
obey the orders it was given by its creator, and any others named at its creation.
With 1 thread woven as part of the spell, it sheds light as per the Wisps description.
For each additional thread woven, the caster can give the Wisp the ability to cast an
additional spell that he has in a matrix at the time, using its spellcasting for any
threadweaving etc tests.
This is a ritual spell which requires the leaves of a bioluminescent underwater plant found
in the Mist Swamps.
Many magicians became quite attached to their Wisps, and many summoned the same ones over and over or
created Named Wisps by making the spells permanent. Unfortunatly it was these Wisps that
suffered most when they were abandoned during the scourge..
Game Information
The spell is from the Grimoire of Nimir, a famous Theran Magician from Parlainth before the Scourge.
Nimir was one of the wizards who invented the Wisps. A reknowned master enchanter and spell designer,
he was well known for his taming of a Unicorn as his familiar earlier in his career. Nimir was famous
for creating "utility" spells and items that make day to day life easier for the average magician.
To create this spell, the one he was best known for, he and his team of six laboured for thirteen years,
having to completely redesign the spell three times. In the final attempt, he was so focussed on
getting the spell woven together, he took two years to prepare the final formula.
Spell Creation Notes
9th Circle Wizard variable thread ritual with an Effect of Creation, Target of Magic and Duration
of Weeks/Rank, with multiple effects and a single target. The ritual spell requires threads woven
per day, and two components (spells to be granted in Matrix's and plant from the Mist Swamps).
He had six assistants to assist with the spell research (ironically, not much help when it came to the
Half Magic tests!). When weaving the spell charecteristics, he took three years for the Duration,
two months for the Effect, another each month for the Range and Casting Difficulty. The final
Spellcasting test took two years. All rolls used Karma, costing him thirteen points in all.
