Garrott prepared his hammer, his mind grappling with the problem before
them. If they attacked, chances were that the horror constructs would hold
the upper hand. He doubted that the dim light would pose an issue to them
and he also doubted that the odds were in the favour of the party. Some
would suggest attempting to sneak past them and try and steal the item they
were trying to find. Garrott did not like that option either, it was well
and good to leave these constructs here to guard, however should they
require a hasty retreat or worse yet trip some warning device further in, he
liked the idea of knowing that his back was secure and the path out was
clear. He also had to admit to himself that he thought sneaking in was the
way of the thief and someone without honour, which he was not. A warrior
and particularly an Obsidiman warrior faced his challenges and bested them,
without skulking in the shadows. It went against his nature to allow even a
horror construct to survive within Barsaive. The warding that Pean had
erected would offer them some advantage as the horror constructs would not
be expecting it...however it would be a fleeting advantage, even more so now
considering the ward was likely nearing the end of it's life.
All these thoughts cascaded through his mind and his Obsidiman nature
recoiled in reflection of the fact that he was forced to make a choice
without due consideration, this was one time which required fast action not
contemplation. In this he would have to be like an energy waster and make a
decision quickly. He much preferred meeting people in open combat, or the
clash of armies where generals had time to consider strategy. Yet his dream
came back to him and the words of Thystonius...the passion regarded struggle
against odds favourably and were not the odds he faced now dire? Garrott's
resolve firmed and he hoped that those who awaited the party behind them
would aid them. It was better to face an enemy, it was better to have no
horror construct walking Barsaive, it was better to make sure that they had
a safe exit where no enemy could skulk about and cut them from the Kaer
entrance, between a rock and a hard place. Garrott's hand reached into his
pack and he drew out his light crystal that had been gifted to him by his
brothers when he had walked from the life rock, letting the pack drop. He
hoped as he drew in a breath that Thystonus would guide his weapon and buoy
his companions in the struggle, even as he breathed across the light crystal
beinging it to life and flooding the area in light. Placing it down he
brandished the hammer and let a roar escape his lips, like thunder rolling
through the valleys, his step carrying him forward raising him into the air.
His hammer would strike.
He would live as a warrior.
He would make his legend in life or death.
