The creatures bound down the rocky slopes and hurl themselves into you. you prepare yourself for the onslaught and watch as half of them are repelled by the spells that Pean has cast, in some cases with the creatures suffering incredible damage in the process.
Garrott is the quicker and spins just above the ground slamming his hammer into the first that reaches him with a loud crack, knocking it onto its back, struggling to get up. The creatures that punch through the circles fall on you all. The battlefield is a confusion of teeth as the scaled horrors bite and snap at you. Pean, the only one without an opponent finally recognises them and calls out their name "Gnashers!".
the initial onslaught is severe and the attacks of the creatures knock Farli, Lenora, Shalandra and Angavorn to the ground. Knowing the danger they face if they stay on the ground the four stand as the others all suffer major bites from the creatures, apart from Elklisee who is too quick for her assailant, and Pean who is well protected by the barrier of his companions.
Elklisee attempts to use her shift in position to surprise the horror but only manages to narrowly catch it, cutting into its thick scaled hide. Rose is more successful as she spind her legs to gain momentum and slams her crystal battle axe into the stomach of her assailant, knocking it backward onto its back causing it to scramble its legs in the air trying to get back up.
As Pean finishes putting a thread to his spell matrix, Maerath swings his two handed sword for the first time since you have travelled with him. He guides it with an effortless ease and brings the blade down on the skull of his assailant, smashing its body into two neat pieces, it falling dead from the blow.
The creatures seem to swarm around you and more flashes of light from Pean's circles repel more of the creatures from the fray. The damage from the spells knocking at least two unconscious, killing at least another and knocking two sprawling to their back.You can see beyond the creatures that are attacking you that the beasts even attack one another as they fall, saving you from the full onslaught as more enter the area.
But the creatures at your feet and the others that advance in to attack do so with less finesse but more fury as their taste for the blood of name givers takes control. A spray of blood strikes you as Shalandra's throat is torn open, her form dropping stone cold dead to the ground as the creature continues to bound about. Rose and Lenora are felled, no longer moving by the onslaught and Angavorn is again pushed to the ground.
Garrott roars with a call for veangance as you see his muscles bulge and he brings his hammer down on one of the creatures, shattering its spine into a thousand splinters, twitching in its death throes. As the blow falls, the ground opens up beneath you all as if his mighty blow had sundered the ground beneath you before you realise it is the doors falling away from you. You all fall into the hole, at least an eight foot drop and luckily only three of the Gnashers fall in with you.
As you fall, you see an aged troll standing beside a wheel looking frightened and shocked at the speed the doors give way. Beside him flies Temorya with an equally fearful look as the doors fold in. Temorya shouts to you all;
"Help the troll close it again!!"
As Pean falls he hurls his spear at one of the Gnashers that accompany you down into the hole. The energy from the spell rips the horrors body into shreds as it strikes.
Elklisee and Angavorn collect themselves quickly and move to a large wheel like mechanism, helping him to wind the doors back into place.
Maerath lands beside one of the remaining two Gnashers and with a blow equally as skillful as his first that destroyed one of the creatures dispatches it easily. Farli responding to the shock of seeing Shalandra die, and feeling her life blood across her slams her hand into the body of the remaining Gnasher as it forms into a claw. The blow perfectly aimed enters the creatures eye and exits through the back of its head.
The door grinds shut and the old troll locks in place a catch to make it hold. You hear the spells that Pean cast destroy more of the creatures outside as they struggle to get to where you were though the protection afforded by the door now will protect you well and truly before they could make their way through.
Pean does not hesitate to rip open his satchel and spread the salve contained in it across the opened throat of Shalandra. Garrott and Farli confirm that Rose and Lenora still live, though barely. You stand in silence as you watch the salve glow blue over the wound. Healing potions are applied to Lenora and Rose as they wake up, everyone holds their breath.
The Last Chance Salve works better than expected and you see the fortitude literally grow back into Shalandra. Not only does the throat wound disappear as if it had never been, the damage caused by a bite to her leg also heals over some. Though you know the internal injuries and broken bones are still ther you all let loose a breath of relief as she takes her first breath.
You then notice for a second time a troll. Grey and aged like you have never seen a troll before, weeping with delight along with the rest of you, as Temorya hovers nervously above the wheel looking from each face to the other.
<OK, after a healing potion has been used on Rose and Lenora (all from their own packs) and Elklisee throws Pean her Last Chance in her passing to Pean for Shalandra, all are now conscious and more importantly, alive>
