Garrott. his back the fire and the hammer cradled in his lap, eyes ever
searching the darkness listened to the story silently. As the silence
stretched on he looked to the full moon and quietly spoke. His voice was
like a deep rumble within the mountains, a peal of thunder many valleys
away.
"Your story is not quite so different to the many that I have heard about
fires like this in my travels Pean. Although the small details change, like
actors changing masks." Drawing a deep breath like the intake of air from
one of the massive bellows below Throal the Obsidiman warrior sits in the
light of the fire like a rock exposed by wind and rain. The age and the
mystery of his race suddenly becomes more real as his voice seems to take on
a far away tone. "We Obsidimen do not experience the expectations of
family, we Obsidimen simply are. The whole purpose of our being is for the
furtherment of the life rock and the shared knowledge of the life rock.
>From the time of our creation and stepping into this world, we have a sole
purpose. My path is that of the warrior adept...this was known by the bones
of the earth long before I stepped forth. The threads that are Obsidimen
within the greater weave of the pattern are the strongest as the thread does
not change, however some would say that those threads also lack the vibrancy
and colour within the tapestry that a fireblood does." Another great
breath, his black on grey skin seeming to ripple as an errant breeze catches
the flames, blue bloodstones shimmering. "It seems to someone who is an
outsider looking in that it is a failing of the firebloods, that their
parents expect them to follow and be the same as them, despite their
diversity. Even we Obsidimen of the same liferock, though similar, are
different in many ways. Someone who forces you to be what you are not...is
no better than a Theran slaver. In this I suppose we Obsidimen are lucky,
we know what we are and who we are to be from the very beginning. However I
also think that this may ultimately be our downfall as well." His eyes
never leaving the area about them, the big warrior chuckles. "Have no fear
though, the threads of those here now, will no doubt be some of the
brightest within the tapestry we weave now...I am sure of it."
